Hi everyone,

I’m thrilled to share with you my latest video tutorial on how to sew a stunning midi dress with side pockets and corset back. This is a beautiful and versatile dress that you can wear for any occasion.

What is a Midi Dress?

A midi dress is a type of dress that rises above the ankles but falls below the knees, otherwise known as the mid-calf. There are various patterns and styles to choose from to fit your body shape and fashion preference. A midi dress is not the same as a maxi dress, which falls all the way down to the floor or the ankle.

How to Sew a Midi Dress with Pockets and Corset Back

In this video, you’ll learn how to:

  • Create your own pattern from scratch or adjust the existing one
  • Cut and sew the fabric pieces together
  • Add side pockets and a corset back to your dress
  • Style your dress with different shoes and accessories

Plus, I have a special bonus for you: a free PDF printable pattern that you can download and print at home. This pattern is designed to fit most body types and sizes, and it’s super easy to use.

French Curved Rulers

In this video, I’ll show you how to use French curved rulers to make this dress. French curved rulers are curved rulers used in sewing, fashion design and pattern making. They are used to make sewing patterns and to adapt existing curved lines on patterns such as armhole, neckline, waistline, and hip line.

French curved rulers help you create smooth and natural curves that fit your body shape and style. They also help you mark seam allowance and grading on your patterns.

I have a whole post on French curved rulers on my blog, where I explain what they are, how to use them, and what types of curves they have.

Plus, as a bonus for my readers and viewers, I have created 6 different French curved rulers that you can download and print for free. These rulers are based on the most common and useful curves for sewing and pattern making.

  • For a casual day look, pair your dress with flats or sneakers, a denim jacket or a cardigan, and a tote bag or a backpack.
  • For a romantic date night look, pair your dress with heels or wedges, a leather jacket or a blazer, and a clutch or a crossbody bag.
  • For a formal event look, pair your dress with pumps or sandals, a faux fur coat or a shawl, and a statement necklace or earrings.

The possibilities are endless! You can mix and match different shoes, jackets, bags, and jewelry to create your own style.

What is tulip sleeve?

Tulip sleeves are a type of short sleeve that has a curved shape and overlaps at the shoulder, resembling the petals of a tulip flower. They are a simple way to add some style and elegance to a basic tee or dress.
To help you dive into the world of tulip sleeves, I've created a

creativity. With a little bit of hacking and imagination, you can sew a
variety of tulip sleeves that suit your style and mood.

Most L shape rulers for sewing are from plastic , to be honest I don't recommend them much as you will use L shape ruler very often , imagine how many times it will fell down from table ! it must be hard to destroy, that's why mine is metal one and I highly recommend those as they can last for years , I have mine for about 7 years !

It's fantastic helper , especially for beginners , it teaches you how to sew straight lines even which such difficult fabrics silk or organza,I'm not beginner any more yet I still use it very often and love it.

Most popular variations of petal sleeves :

Double Tulip Sleeve: These sleeves have two overlapping layers, creating a more pronounced tulip effect.

Single Tulip Sleeve: This is a sleeve with one petal-like layer that wraps over another.

Long Tulip Sleeve: Tulip sleeves can vary in length, from short sleeves to long, flowing ones.

Tulip Sleeve with Ruffles: Some tulip sleeves incorporate ruffles or gathers at the edges of the overlapping layers for added flair.

Tulip Sleeve with Cuffs: Cuffed tulip sleeves have a band or cuff at the end of the petal-like layers, adding structure to the design.

Little history

Tulip sleeves, like many fashion elements, have evolved over time and can be traced back to various periods in fashion history. While it's challenging to pinpoint an exact moment of origin, here's a brief overview of the history of tulip sleeves:

Tulip sleeves began to appear in fashion during the early 20th century, particularly in the 1920s. This era was known for its loose and relaxed silhouettes, and tulip sleeves fit well with the flapper style. These sleeves were often seen on flapper dresses, characterized by their drop-waist and fringe details.

Tulip sleeves experienced a resurgence in the mid-20th century, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. The fashion of this period was marked by feminine and tailored looks. Tulip sleeves were used on blouses, dresses, and even wedding gowns to add a touch of elegance and romance.

In the late 20th century, tulip sleeves made occasional appearances in fashion, often as retro or vintage-inspired elements. Designers and fashion enthusiasts embraced the nostalgic style of the 1920s and 1950s, which led to the reintroduction of tulip sleeves in various garments.

Tulip sleeves continue to be a popular design feature in contemporary fashion. They are often used to add a unique and feminine touch to blouses, tops, dresses, and even outerwear. Fashion designers frequently experiment with different fabrics, lengths, and variations of tulip sleeves to create modern, stylish looks.

Let's get sewing and make those sleeves bloom! 🌷💐
