Learn How to Sew a Midi Length A-Line Skirt from Scratch (Free Pattern in 7 Sizes)

Hello, everyone! Today, I have a special treat for you. I’m going to tell you more about my latest project: a midi length a-line skirt with a zipper and slits. And guess what? I also have a video tutorial and a free pdf pattern for you to download and use. How awesome is that?

A midi length a-line skirt is a staple of the 60’s mod wardrobe. It is also a great wardrobe booster for any style. It’s perfect for hot summer days and works as a great transitional piece when paired with thigh-high socks or stockings. The simple lines of a button front a-line skirt are also great for any sewist who wants to show off a great fabric print

Materials & Tools Needed:

To sew a midi length a-line skirt, you will need the following tools and materials:

A sewing machine, you’ll need a sewing machine that can handle different types of stitches, such as straight, zigzag, or overlock.
Thread , learn more on threads
Scissors. learn more on using scissors
Pins
Measuring tape
Seam ripper, learn how to use it here.
Iron and ironboard
PDF pattern for a-line skirt
Fabrics, read more on fabrics here
Zipper 20 cm
Interfacing for waistband (optional)

Magnetice seam guid and magnet on table.

You will also need a magnetic seam guide or a magnet to help you sew evenly.

I used a simple a-line skirt pattern that I created few months ago. I love this pattern because it’s based on your measurements, so you can adjust it to any size . It’s also super quick. I can make one in about an hour!

How to Hem

To finish off the a-line skirt, the last step is to sew the edges, I suggest a 4 cm hem. Hemming requires folding and stitching the fabric to create a neat and durable finish. There are different types of hems to choose from, depending on the fabric and the look you want for your dress.

How to Sew a Double Slit Mini Skirt (With Free PDF Pattern)

Do you love sewing and making your own clothes? If so, you’re going to love this tutorial. In this post, I’m going to show you how to sew a double slit mini skirt from scratch. This is a very easy and fun project that you can do in your spare time. And the best part is, you don’t need to buy a pattern, because I’m going to give you one for free. You just need to adjust it a little bit to create the double slit effect. This skirt is perfect for any season and any occasion. You can dress it up or down, depending on your mood.

What You’ll Need

To make this skirt, you’ll need the following materials and tools:

Fabric of your choice (I used a unstretchy cotton, but you can use any fabric that has some stretch to it)
Sewing machine
Scissors
Pins
Measuring tape
Iron

How to Add a Slit

How to Sew a Double Slit Mini Skirt

Step 1: Download and print the free PDF pattern from the link below. . Make sure you print it at 100% scale and check the test square to ensure the correct size. The pattern has two pieces: the front and the back. Cut out the pieces and tape them together along the dashed lines.

Step 2: Fold your fabric in half, right sides together, and place the pattern on top of it. Pin the pattern to the fabric and cut around it, leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. You should have two identical pieces of fabric.

Step 3: Mark the slit lines on the front and back pieces. The slit lines are indicated by the solid lines on the pattern. You can use a fabric marker, chalk, or pins to mark them.

Step 4: Sew along the slit lines, starting from the bottom edge and stopping about 2 inches from the top edge. Backstitch at the beginning and end of each seam. Cut the seam allowance along the slit lines, being careful not to cut the stitches.

Step 7: Now, you need to sew the waistband to the skirt. To do this, place the waistband pieces right sides together, matching the short edges. Pin and sew along the short edges, using a 5/8 inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowances open. Fold the waistband in half, wrong sides together, and press it. Then, unfold the waistband and pin it to the top edge of the skirt, right sides together, matching the side seams and the notches. Sew along the top edge, using a 5/8 inch seam allowance. Press the seam allowances up and the waistband down.

DIY....Sukienki...dzielone na dwa...refashion dress ...diy

Moje "najnowsze" upolowane sukienki (1zł) w stylu 50's i 40's świetne materiały bawełna stan idealny ....na ciele nie wyglądały już tak super ...za miast "bogini dawnych lat" przypominałam bardziej "ciocię klocię"..jako że nie chciałam aby wisiały w szafie ..podzieliłam na dwa..uzyskując...piękne bluzeczki ..i sukienki ...nawet bardziej "funkcyjne " niż cała sukienka

Mój nr. 1 cała w "piękne błękitne grochy".. materiał bawełna (inaczej "oddychający" )
